What My Ideal Organization Looks Like:
Reflection:
When this course began, I had no true understanding of what I wanted from an organization. I wasn't sure what kind of structure I wanted, what industry I wanted to work in, what kind of culture I wanted to exist within, how big of an organization I wanted to work for, and what kind of management style I prefer to work under. Honestly, I had been so focused on trying to land a job at all that I hadn't really taken the time to reflect on my own values and expectations to realize that my needs are important too when looking for an organization to work for and applying for a job. This exercise encouraged me to take the time to thoroughly evaluate all these aspects of an organization, along with a few others, to identify what my ideal organization looks like. After completing this exercise I had a much better grasp of what I want for my career. I learned that I prefer to work for a generally large organization in the not-for-profit sector that does not do the majority of its business in a globalized industry. Overall, my ideal organization would be tailored to the different preferences listed above and would assist me in achieving a proper work-life balance that allows me to provide equal and adequate attention to all areas of my life.
